The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has announced that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will be traveling to the United States to participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting, following an invitation from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
During his visit, which is scheduled from June 30 to July 2, Jaishankar will also inaugurate an exhibition at the United Nations Headquarters that focuses on the impact of terrorism globally and the international community's efforts to address it.
The MEA highlighted that the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting (QFMM) will take place on July 1, building on discussions from the previous meeting held in Washington DC on January 21 of this year.
The ministers will discuss various regional and global issues, particularly those related to the Indo-Pacific, and assess the progress of several Quad initiatives ahead of the upcoming Quad Leaders' Summit to be hosted by India.
Additionally, the ministers are expected to explore new proposals that aim to promote a shared vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific.
The exhibition titled 'The Human Cost of Terrorism' will be inaugurated on June 30, 2025, and will showcase the severe consequences of terrorist acts worldwide and the measures taken by the global community to combat terrorism.
During a briefing by the US State Department, Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott confirmed that Secretary Rubio will host the Foreign Ministers from the Quad nations on July 1 in Washington DC. Pigott emphasized that this meeting is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific, showcasing American leadership in promoting strength, peace, and prosperity.
The Quad, comprising Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, is a diplomatic alliance dedicated to fostering an inclusive and resilient Indo-Pacific region. Its origins trace back to the collaborative response to the Indian Ocean tsunami in December 2004. Earlier this year, Secretary Rubio hosted a significant meeting with the Foreign Ministers of the Quad countries, reaffirming their commitment to uphold sovereignty and territorial integrity while opposing any unilateral actions that seek to alter the status quo through force.
